Professor Küçükerdönmez obtained his degree as a medical doctor in 1999 at the University of Hacettepe. He completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at Başkent University in 2003, he became Associate Professor in 2010 at the same university. In 2012, he moved to Izmir University, gained the Professor in Ophthalmology title in 2015, and worked at the Ophthalmology Department as chairman until 2016. He is continuing his practice in Net Goz Eye Surgery centre. Throughout his career (between December 2005 and February 2006; and December 2012 and January 2013) he visited University of Tuebingen, Retina Department, Germany with scholarship from International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO). He is a member of the Turkish Ophthalmology Society and an active member of its Medical Retina Department. He passed the European Board of Ophthalmology Examination in year 2013 and gained the title “Fellow of European Board of Ophthalmology –FEBO”.

His specific teaching and research interests are in the areas of medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery, pterygium and cataract surgery. His many academic and scientific projects have primarily been funded by Başkent University, The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). He has also published 44 referred articles in journals covered by SCI and contributed extensively to ophthalmology books written in English. His research interests are Medical Retina, Cataract and pterygium surgery and Vitreoretinal surgery.
